Applying for art galleries and exhibitions

I create contemporary abstract paintings that blend expressive movement, rich textures, and harmonious colour palettes. My work is designed to evoke emotion, inspire connection, raise breast cancer awareness as a 34 year old survivor, and bring a distinctive visual presence to both private and public spaces.

Hello Dear Friends,

I wanted to discuss applying for art galleries and exhibitions. It can be both thrilling and nerve-wracking. For many artists, showcasing their work is a significant milestone that symbolises recognition and progress within the art community. My journey in applying for exhibitions started with a mix of excitement and apprehension.

Facing the Challenges

Throughout my experience, I encountered various challenges that tested my resolve. One of the most significant hurdles was the overwhelming competition. The art world is vast, and numerous talented artists are vying for exhibition spots. The thought of my work being compared to that of others was daunting. I questioned whether my pieces were strong enough, or if they would resonate with gallery curators. Does insecurity twist your emotions for better or worse?

An Opening Market

However, despite the challenges, I noticed a gradual change in the market's accessibility. The art community's dynamics appear to be shifting, with more platforms opening up for emerging artists. Truthfully, I've applied for many galleries and exhibitions and I didn't hear back from many. If I did, it was rejection, which I knew would be part of this journey although it still stings your ego a little.

Ultimately, while my experience of applying for exhibitions was riddled with challenges, it was equally rewarding. The journey taught me resilience, networking, and self-discovery. Every 'no' led to a clearer understanding of my work and what I wanted to communicate as an artist. I’ve realised that the market is continually evolving, and with perseverance, one can find their rightful place in it.

I will still continue to apply for more galleries, magazines, podcasts and more platforms so I can spread my message, my work and my truth. Here's to any other artists or anyone who is applying for something so meaningful and special to them. Let's keep chasing our dreams.

Thank you for visiting my little corner of the internet and I hope to connect with you soon.

- Irene.
